In most cases, you should be able to use the “Add Adjustment” button to adjust the number of shares to Vanguard's total. Once all of your transactions have been accepted, you should receive a prompt from Quicken that begins, “Your Quicken portfolio and your brokerage portfolio do not agree.” When you receive this message, please click “Yes” to adjust the number of shares to the same precision that Vanguard's website provides. For example, we would pass a share value of 27.86809 to Quicken, so that when Quicken calculated the total of the transaction, it would equal $ 3000.00. When you downloaded your recent transactions to Quicken, the OFX file creation process brings your share balance out to a much higher level of precision so that your transaction balances match. On our website and in your paper statements, we would then round this number of shares to three decimal places and state that you now owned 27.868 shares. In this particular case, the fund comes to 27.86809103576405. When we received your $ 3000, we would divide that sum by the price per share to calculate the number of shares you received. Due to differences in precision between Vanguard's systems and Quicken's systems, the number of shares in a given transaction may not necessarily match exactly to the number of shares that appears on your paper statement.įor example, say you purchased $ 3000 of the Vanguard 500 Index Fund at $ 107.65. When you download your transaction history into Quicken, we provide you with the number of shares necessary for your share total multiplied by the price per share that you paid to equal the transaction totals that you view when you receive your paper statements or look at your transaction history online.
